1. Institutionalization: Institutionalization impacts the person's ability to take any decision. In the prison all the activities of the prisoner's are dictated. They are not allowed to do anything without seeking permission first. The prison's work on very tight schedule and routine that impact's the inner capacity of free agency such as deliberation and choice of the prisoner. Over time, inablity to take decision about the basic aspects of life can destroy person's ability to act independently

2. Social withdrawal and feeling of isolation: Some prisoners starts to feel safe by being disconnected from others as much as possible. This self- imposed social isolation makes them withdraw into themselves, development of trust issues and they lead a very alone life. This type patters closely resembles to being in depression.

3. No self worth and loss of self esteem: Prisoners are not allowed to access their basic privacy rights. They live in really cramped and disgusting places. They have no identity in the prison, they care usually referred by their cell number. They have no control on what they wear, what they eat etc. All of this might lead the to feel that they have no self esteem and they might develop a diminished self worth.
