Followership is created when people desire the methods and attributes of certain leaders. What constitutes some of those attributes?

All the great leaders carry certain traits which people like in them and become followers. It’s not just about doing things but doing things for the greater good of many people. All the great leaders such as Martin Luther King, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela had huge number of followers and they followed them for some specific attributes that differentiated them from others.

First and foremost thing is their courage. Great leaders take up a challenge and no matter what comes against them, they stand without fear. This fearless attitude attracts more people under their banner. People believe that they won’t quit but fight till the goal is reached.

Second attribute is their concern for other people. Most of the time great leaders don’t fight for their wellness but for the wellness of others. They take –up the issues that affect common people and represent them to the authorities. This representing attribute make people follow them.

Third attribute is their communication skills. All the great leaders are powerful communicators. They were able to penetrate the hearts and minds of the people and change the attitude thus making them follow.

Fourth factor is their empathetic listening. Leaders not only speak but also listen empathetically in order to understand problems and issues from the other person’s point of view.

Fifth important attribute is that they treat people equally and they don’t discriminate people on various categories. For them, people are people not matter whether they are rich or poor.

Sixth one is that they don’t stop with saying something and wait for others to act but they initiate and lead. This initiating attribute puts them in the leadership role and bring them more followers.

Finally, great leaders are humble people who mingle with everyone without a second thought. They don’t carry their ego with them instead feel one with the people.
