Why do some couples remain childless?

Answer #1

Voluntarily childless women are generally the relatively higher income bracket women who are employed in professional or managerial occupations and live in urban areas (Abma & Martinez, 2006). Voluntary childlessness is positively associated with lifetime childlessness for women, but not for men.

The childfree tend to be less traditional and less conservative, with more egalitarian attitudes towards gender equality (Abma & Martinez, 2006; Waren & Pals, 2013); in terms of attitudes and values. They are generally non-religious or atheist (Stobert & Kemeny, 2003).
