slide 8- How negative reinforcements affect the prisoners

Homework Answers

Answer #1

It is often recommended that reinforcement is a much more superior technique in bringing about behavioural change in comparison to punishment. By principle, reinforcement leads to an increase of a behaviour whereas punishment serves to decrease or supress a behaviour. In the context of a prison, prisons are already under a punishment regime of serving their sentence. During their time spent there, some desirable behaviours can be inculcated using negative reinforcement techniques as their effects will have a more long term and positive impact.

Currently, the police do not have enough evidence to convict them of the burglary charge, but can convict them on possession of stolen goods. The police place them in separate cells and try to obtain a confession from one or both of them. If neither Jim or Tim confess, they'll get the lesser charge of possession of stolen goods, therefore getting a sentence of...
