Butler argues that sex, and not just gender, is socially constructed. What does she mean by this? Use your answer to compare and contrast Butler's theory of gender relations to those of Simone DeBeauvoir or Dorothy Smith.
Butler states that sex is not a biological feature as many of feminist as Simone DeBeauvoir states but is a socially and historically constructed feature as the feature of gender. According to Butler gender is the expression of heterosexuality that is continued from historical times and still continues, hence, she terms this expression of gender as "perfomative". While Simone DeBeauvoir voices for the oppression of women as an oppressed gender, Butler negates the idea of sex as biological and views both women, the oppressed gender as socially constructed, by the heterosexuality of the society and culture.
