Eleana Kim begins her article describing a wedding. She said the wedding was not legitimate but staged. For whom was it staged? What does Tom Boelistorff mean in his article when he says that avatars in Second Life are almost limitlessly customizable?
The "wedding" that Elena Kim describes in her article was staged for a group of overseas Korean adoptees,. The roles of bride and groom were played by Korean adoptees, and the onlookers were primarily adoptees as well. The staged “wedding” was a part of a summer program organised by the South Korean state in an attempt to grant "Koreanness" to overseas Korean adoptees so that they may be able to experience the culture in its totality.
