The techniques for software requirement analysis are:
1. Data Flow Diagram
A Data Flow Diagram (DFD) can be designed early in the requirement elicitation process of the analysis phase within the SDLC (System Development Life Cycle) to define the project scope. A DFD is often used as a preliminary step to create an overview of the system without going into great detail, which can later be elaborated.
2. Use Cases
A UML use case diagram is the primary form of system/software requirements for a new software program under developed. Use cases specify the expected behaviour (what), and not the exact method of making it happen (how). Use cases once specified can be denoted both textual and visual representation (such as UML).
3. User Stories
A user story is a note that captures what a user does or needs to do as part of his/her work. Each user story consists of a short description written from user's point of view, with natural language. Unlike the traditional requirement capturing, user story focuses on what the user need instead of what the system should deliver.
The techniques used to discover user needs are Data flow diagrams, use cases, and user stories all these techniques are used for gathering the user requirements for the software design and development. All these techniques do the same work of gathering requirement but with all techniques have differnt workings.
Business process re-engineering (BPR) is a business management strategy, originally pioneered in the early 1990s, focusing on the analysis and design of workflows and business processes within an organization. BPR aimed to help organizations fundamentally rethink how they do their work in order to improve customer service, cut operational costs, and become world-class competitors. All companies practice BPR to improve their quality of service for the users , this also increase the effeciency and the effectiveness of the organization.
