Description of the Alzheimer’s disease and why is it a problem ?
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive degenerative neurological disease that leads to dementia. It is the most common cause of dementia. On a cellular level, Alzheimer's disease is characterized by the finding of unusual helical protein filaments in nerve cells of the brain, called neurofibrillary tangles. The progression of the disease is accompanied by inability to recall recent events, problems with language, disorientation (including easily getting lost), mood swings, loss of motivation, not managing self care, and behavioural issues. As a person's condition declines, bodily functions are lost, ultimately leading to death. The biggest challenges with Alzheimer’s is perhaps that its cause is not yet fully understood and that there are no treatments stop or reverse its progression.
