why is this topic important? (Alzheimer’s disease) / The relevance of Alzheimer’s disease/ topic to minority population
The number of people who will develop Alzheimer's disease is expected to skyrocket over the next few years. Our population is aging and it is expected that seventy-nine million baby boomers will turn 65 at a rate of one every eight seconds. This amounts to an increase of more than four million older adults in the population per year. Older adults are at risk for dementia and Alzheimer's disease is the most common type of dementia. It is therefore necessary that we turn our attention towards understanding Alzheimer’s disease.
