This question is for a narcotics class.
As we know, the theory of differential association was given by Edwin Sutherland which states that individuals learn behaviors , values , attitudes and other qualities through interaction with other individuals . This develops the criminal behavior also . When it comes to drug abuse or adapting urg usage behaviors the individuals or we can say actors try to imitate the behaviors of others when exposed to it . This happens when the individual observed the behaviour and is exposed to a stimulus that leads to drug use response in near future . This is called differential reinforcement . The individual then starts developing favourable values and attitudes towards drug abuse . This marks the beginning of drug abuse .
