Three main categories & two drugs in each
classification are:
- stimulants: 1.cocaine 2.nicotine
- depressants: 1.alcohol 2.benzodiazepines
- opioids: 1.heroin 2.morphine
Their physiological and behavioral effects:
- stimulants: High doses may result in
restlessness and agitation, and excessive doses may produce
stereotypic behaviors (repetitive and automatic acts). Chronic
psychological effects use include various psychiatric disorders
such as psychosis, paranoia, and suicidal tendencies.
- depressants: Long-term use of depressants can
produce depression, chronic fatigue, breathing difficulties, sexual
problems and sleep problems.
- opioids: Common effects of opioid include
sedation, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, constipation, physical
dependence, tolerance, and respiratory depression.
