Depressants are drugs that slow down the central nervous system. It depresses the activity of central nervous system. These depressants cause a slowing of activity in the brain and produce a calming effect on a person. It causes a slowing down in the heart rate and lowers anxiety. Depressants can help people with anxiety, and are often used as medications such as Clonazepam, Lorazepam, diazepam and Alprozam. Depressants can often cause decrease in the level of awareness loss of consciousness is taken in large doses, such as alcohol abuse. Some of the effects of depressants are Euphoria, relaxation, less anxiety. The negative effects are impaired coordination, depression, lethargy, drowsiness, mood swings.
