The prefrontal cortex - The prefrontal cortex plays an important role in short term memeory. It processes short term memories and stores immediate information.

The frontal lobe- The frontal lobe is the thinking and executive part of the brain. It plays a role both in the short as well as long term memories.

The medial temporal lobe - This part is responsible for declarative and episodic memory, which are long term memories. Episodic memeories are memories which are events of people's lives and declarative are facts and other important information.

The hippocampus - This is the most important structure for memory. The hippocampus is involved in transfer of short term memories to long term memories. The hippocampus stores long term memories such as facts other information.
