Reflect on this idea that the brain is a computer and that cognition is a kind of computation (as argued by Marcus and as presented by Harnish)

Answer #1

Brain is really a computer. Computer stores informations in its memory and process those informations according to the need. Like this only, in the same way brain functions. Various informations get stored inside the foldings of brain.

More the foldings, more will be the intelligence power. In computational science various flow charts are being used to understand any mechanism. Like this only brain keeps on storing all the informations, knowledges and experiances inside the boxes of those flow charts.

Arrow between two boxes connect them in computational science. Like this, brain also connects two information through recognition of relationships between them. When such interconnections are being made then rule of "if" & "then" of computational sciences are applied inside the brain.

This provides the step by step action plan to brain and guide its working according to the changing circumstances. In computational sciences; arrow connects two boxes of instructions. In brain, neurotransmittoers performs such function and they help in physiological activities acccording to the signal processed by brain.

After successful execution of a flow process a meaningful procedure comes into existance. Same phenomenon takes place when brain processes and synchronises an information for sucessful execution of a task.

Much like a computer, the human brain may retain traces of information even after being deleted. These memory traces are physico-chemical manifestations of representations (memories) in the brain. While their existence remains disputed, how might the existence of memory traces bear on developing new procedural and declarative memories? Why is this significant for understanding human cognition?

Merton argued that seeking recognition as the first person to come up with an idea, or to show an experimental finding, is an important part of science. This, he said, is reflected in the frequency and intensity of priority disputes – disagreements over who should get credit of this kind. In about 200 words, describe a scientific priority dispute, other than the ones included in Theory and Reality. How did it arise and how was it resolved?
