Answer #1

The term collective action problem describes the situation in which several individuals can all benefit from a certain action, but has an associated cost making it implausible that any individual can or will undertake and solve it alone. I have frequently encountered this in group projects where most of my peers tend to rationally withhold their contribution, resulting in an inferior outcome. Perhaps the most effective solution then would have been to showcase each individual’s contribution separately so that each would take personal responsibility and not rely on others to carry out the task for them.
