Problem Solving

Throughout the course, we will be coming back to the decision making process and discussing how we solve problems. Many of the things we discuss in the course refer to avoiding the pitfalls that many people make in problem solving. In your opinion, what is problem solving? Why is it important? What is an example of a time you succeeded at solving a problem? What is a time you failed at solving a problem?

Your work should be at least 500 words, but mostly draw from your own personal experience. This should be written in first person and give examples from your life. Be sure if you are using information from the readings that you properly cite your readings in this, and in all assignments.

PLEASE NO PLAGIARISM!!!!! IN YOUR OWN WORDS!!!!

There are many times that I have succeeded at solving a problem, such as the one time where I had to make the decision of selecting my subject for major studies, by which is narrowed down to my pros and cons and my wants and needs and was able to finalize a given subject.

The other time I failed at making a decision was when I selected my minor, as I feel my mind fell prey to the heuristics, which are the cognitive short cuts, and I made a decision that I wasn't quite happy with..

Faulty Attributions Included in our many decision-making errors is the way in which we explain actions and events around us. Based on our observations, we tend to make decisions about whether another person's actions are internally or externally caused. One model of attributional processes suggests that when we are familiar with a person, we rely on three judgments to make this decision: consistency of the person's action, distinctiveness of that action, and consensus of that action with actions of others....
