Post a brief description of an example of long-term memory loss that you have experienced.
Then explain your long-term memory loss within the context of the three-store memory theory and levels of processing memory theory.
Finally, explain strategies you might use to improve your long-term memory function.
Answer.) I used to play guitar when I was 6 and I played for 3 long years . But now its been 15 years since I have not even touched my guitar. This can be an example of long term memory loss I have experienced.
According to the three store model of memory there are three levels of processing i.e. sensory register , short term memory and long term memory. Information passes through each stage and finally gets into long term memory only if rehearsed adequately. In my case I did not practice for so many years so it gradually faded away.
According to the levels of processing theory there are two main kevels i.e. shallow processing and deep processing . In shallow processing person first processes information structrually . For instance taking in physical characterstics of the word to be learnt. Then through maintainence rehearsal this information can be retained in short termmemory for a short period of time . In deep processing if information is required to be in long termmemory then deep processing is done. It is simply by elaborating the meanings of the word or information for better understanding and memory.
In my case I stipped at maintainence rehearsal and so deep processing could not take place .
Strategies to improve LTM:-
>use mnemonics
>elaborate and rehearse
>practice
