Answer #1

Resilience is defined as an individual's ability to successfully cope with and recover from adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or significant sources of stress. Resilience does not imply that individuals do not experience distress during difficult situations. Rather, it emphasizes their capacity to "bounce back" from such events. Potential factors that contribute positively to resilience include:

  • Strong social support networks within and outside the family.
  • The capacity to formulate and execute realistic plans.

  • Positive self-image and self-confidence.

  • Communication and problem-solving skills.

  • The ability to manage strong feelings and impulses.
