List and describe at least two factors that contribute to quantum mottle?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Quantum Mottle is classified as radiographic noise, related to number of X-ray photons passing through the patient body and producing an image. When fewer photon reaches detector and produces grainy and sandy image.

Main cause of Quantum Mottle:

1. Varying Wavelength : When X-ray photons are emitted from the source (X Ray Tube) due to instrumentation error and Power to the source can vary the energy levels of X-ray photons which cause in change in wavelength and we get Quantum Mottle.

2. Chemical reaction at detector (Film) : When X Ray photons passes through patient body their energy decrease and they become more actice to chemically react at detector film, which cause blurry and sandy image due to less Intensity of X ray photons.
