• Abused as a child-Witnessing or experiencing abuse and violence increases the likelihood that a child will become a violent adult.Children react to quarreling parents by disobeying, crying, hitting other children, and, in general, becoming much more antisocial than their peers.Research shows that the longer the child experiences abuse, the more likely he or she is to become an adult abuser,and the more varied the forms of abuse, the deeper the effect will be.
• Low self esteem also effects adult abusive behaviour.An adult who is unemployed,lost out on opportunities in life sometimes vent out their frustrations with themselves on children or even other family members.It could lead to destructive and violent behaviours.
• Substance abuse is the major factor in abusive behaviour.Batterers who abuse alcohol and are living with women often try to justify their violent actions as a way to control their victims when they are drunk. They also use alcohol as an excuse for the violence, blaming what they’ve done on alcohol. This way, they avoid taking responsibility for their actions.Drugs and alcohol abuse does lead to impulsive behaviour.
• Becoming parents at a young comes with depression and frustration sometimes,which an adolescent is not willing to face sometimes leading to sometimes violent behaviour towards the child or even becoming neglectful completely.No job,sometimes leaving college because of shame associated with teenage pregnancy etc. makes teenagers frustrated leading to either self harm or even abusive behaviour towards the child.
