What is Triton's surface and interior like ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Triton's Surface:

1) As per images captured by Voyager-2, the Triton's surface has icy plains, troughs, ridges, some craters, plateus, furrows.

2) As per analysis, its surface is relatively young (50 million to 6 million years old as per estimation)

3) About 55% of its surface is enclosed with icy nitrogen, frozen water (15%-35%), and dry ice (frozen carbon dioxide)

4) The surface has deposition of organic compounds, tholins which are thought to be favorable for life.

Triton's Interior:

1) Analysis shows that there is rocky material in the interior of Triton.

2) The composition of Triton consists of ice, other phases of ice (including water, if so it can support life.) and rocks.

3) If the interior is warm enough then there can be enough energy to cause some motion in the interior which can result in folds and canyons on the surface.

You are designing an air pressure vessel with a corrosion resistant interior coating. Will the surface energy of the interior wall increase or decrease when pressurized? Use drawings to guide your answer. I believe the answer is that the surface energy will decrease. However, in the instance we learned in class we were looking at a liquid and particles. Therefore, my logic was that the corrosion resistant material would create a lower affinity for the particles in which case absorption...
