Describe in a few sentences the work of NObel Lureate Arthur Ashkin in the context of Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics research.
Nobee laureate,Arthur worked in bell lab until about 1960 to 1961, and then switched to laser research. His research was basically related to nonlinear optics ,optical fibre,parametric oscillator . He was also the co discoverer of photorefractive effect in piezowpiezoel crystal.This is basically a done by variation of refractive index of a material.Ashkin started his work on manipulation of microparticles with laser light in late 1960 which led to the discovery of optical tweezers,this basically forms the basis of optical trapping process that eventually was used to manipulate atoms, molecules, and biological cells. The phenomenon is the radiation pressure of light; this pressure can be divided into optical gradient and scattering forces and light radiation pressure can be used to move things from one place to other .This basically was the beauty of Arthur Ashkin's research .
