Inside a moving part of a thermal machine a gas is confined in a cylinder by a spring-loaded piston of cross section 5 cm2. Initially the gas occupies a volume at STP and the spring in its relaxed state, Now the gas is heated by a heater until the piston moves outwards by 0.2 m. Evaluate how many times the final temperature of the gas increases if its cross-sectional area increases by two times. Justify that confined gas is an Ideal. (Given that Force constant of spring is 7000 N/m.)

An ideal gas is held within a cylinder by a frictionless piston that, because of its mass, exerts a constant force on the gas in the cylinder. The gas is initially at 2.3 bar absolute pressure and 30oC in the cylinder, and occupies a volume of exactly 20.0 liters. The cylinder is equipped with an internal electric heater to heat the gas. The heater is turned on and produces 150 W of power for three minutes. At the end of this...

A gas is confined to a cylinder which is attached to a second, evacuated, container of the same size. When the valve is opened between the containers, the gas makes a free expansion. The entire system is well insulated so that no thermal exchange with the surroundings rakes place. If the gas is a real gas, its temperature during the free expansion would be expected to _________. If the gas is an ideal gas, its temperature during the free expansion...
