In the desert many people have adapted to the heat by wearing white clothes as opposed to black clothes. Why would they wear white rather than black?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

White colored clothing reflects light and black colored clothing absorbs it. The more heat that is absorbed the hotter the clothing is and the hotter you are. Furthermore, light-colored clothing looks softer and cooler. White clothes will reflect your body heat back to your skin and make you cold while black clothes will absorb radiation and make you hot.

1 : If we are wearing thin wear that are black then the absorbed energy increases the temperature of the fabric and we feel hot inside although the transmissivity of black colour=0, Transmissivity is the tendency to transfer heat from one medium to another.

2 : We could not wear thick fabric either that could cause more sweat, since the heat liberated from your body gets entrapped then it would be a mess.

If you have any doubt then mention in the comment.

Describe an experiment that would test whether white people have unconscious negative attitudes toward black faces using the process dissociation framework described in class and in Jacoby & Kelley (1992). By this framework, you will need to create an “exclusion” task (“Don’t make response X if you consciously know that Y”) and an “inclusion” task (“Make response X if you consciously know that Y”). The hallmark of this approach should be that white subjects make some kind of negative response...

The latent heat of vaporization (Lv) is similar to the latent heat of fusion (Lf), except that it relates to boiling rather than melting. For water, Lv = 2.26 x 106 J/kg. .970 kg of steam at 100°C (the boiling point of water) is put in contact with a 13.5 kg piece of metal. The initial temperature of the piece of metal is 70.0°C. When the piece of metal reaches 100°C, .0420 kg of steam has condensed.     a.         How much heat...
