What is the best resolution (spacing of Bragg planes d) you can achieve with X-rays of 0.154nm? 0.1nm? 0.01nm?
When X-rays are scattered by a crystal lattice ,it is noticed that crystal lattice acts like a grating and consequently the reflected X-rays have maxima and minima of Intensity.
Bragg's Law governs the scattering of X-rays by the lattice of a crystal.
It states that
, where d crystal lattice spacing, the angle at which rays are scattered, m is an integer representing the order of the diffraction maxima and the wavelength of X-rays
Thus X-rays will be able to resolve wavelegth of order of 2d
so with 0.154 nm X-rays we can resolve d of 0.154/2 = 0.077 nm of spacing
With X-rays of 0.1 nm we should be able to resolve crystal spacing of 0.05 nm
Similarly with 0.01nm X-ray we can measure lattice spacing of 0.005nm
