1. Answer a, b with clear and simple explanation with few lines :
a) what is the main function of decanter to separation between to liquid?
b) what is the difference between vertical decanter and horizontal decanter?
Please make it clear and simple.

a) The main function of a decanter is to separate a liquid from the contained sediment, or less frequently two-phase liquid output. It simply picks up the liquid phase out from the top or drains out from the bottom (if the liquid is heavier than the solid float) to a limit such that both the phases do not get mixed into the taken out liquid. Centrifuge effect is often used in addition to the gravity based separation.
b) A vertical decanter has a large L/D ratio, and is typically
used when the sediment takes more time to settle down. The height
of the decanter helps in staging out the sediment and liquid
solvent easily. A vertical decanter deploys high pressure across
its two ends to facilitate faster separation.
A horizontal decanter on the other hand is mounted with a low L/D
ratio, and is often used to serve near-continuous separation. It is
less costly in operation due to absence of high pressure
requirement (unlike vertical decanter), bus is often noisy.
