what was the purpose of washing the product in the hirsch funnel with methylene chloride? why does it have to be cold for an anti addition lab

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Hirsch funnel is a similar design of Bücherfunnel , but used for filtration of smaller quantities of materials.

The product in the Hirsch funnel is washed with methylene chloride because methylene chloride is colourless ( so that our product taken is viable clearly _ so we can take down if any observations needed ) , cold , immiscible with water , not unpleasant order , makes it a good solvent to be used .

It should be 'cold' for an anti addition lab , such that the product taken or its crystals doesn't get dissolved in the taken solvent .
