What reactions are occurring during TGA?

What reactions are occurring during TGA?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Thermogravimetric analysis is a method by which the change in mass of a system due to chemical reactions is measured as a function of temperature. While most of the time, the increase and decrease in mass is due to chemical reactions while at others it can also be due to physical phase transtions like liquid to gas.

The following are the various chemical reactions that can by analysed using TGA:

  • Chemical decomposition reactions with release of gases (like combustion)]
  • Corrosion (oxidation of metals)
  • Combustion, pyrolysis and oxidation are the three main types of reactions that happen in TGA
