Structural and occurring during the transport of a macromolecule
into the cell
What are the biochemical changes? Please explain
Generally the functional groups determine the shapes of macromolecules which in turn determines their functions and so the functional groups affect the bonds that hold a macromolecule together. Eg the ring forms of glucose in cellulose and starch have different configurations, therefore, cellulose and starch serve different purposes. The Functional groups also affect the polarity of the bonds, for eg, lipids consist of hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails and this characteristic of lipids allows them to form bilayers, which serve as membranes of cells. While proteins have complex structures caused by interactions between the functional groups and a change of a single amino acid can make a major change in the function of a protein.
Hope this helps you. Thank you ?
