2. Discuss the principle and practice of batch adsorption.

Homework Answers

Answer #1
  • In batch type contact operation, the quantity of adsorbent is mixed continuously with a specific volume of wastewater until the pollutant in that solution has been decreased to a desirable level. The adsorbent is then removed and discarded or regenerated for use with another volume of solution.
  • Adsorption from solution is customarily conducted either as a column or as a batch operation In the former instance the solution is allowed to percolate through a column usually held in a vertical position such as is the common practice with ion exchange columns.
