Before this BET isotherm of adsorption, we had theories which emphasize on the monolayer adsorption of gas molecules on solid surface. By this BET isotherm assumes the physical adsorption by the formation of multilayer. Here in this adsorption theory solid suface must be uniform, localised site i.e adsorption on one site doesn't affect the adsorption on the neighbouring site.
In this theory it is further asumed that molecules can be adsorbed in 'n' number of layers. Energy for the adsorption of each layer is assumed to be uniform for each layer. Here energy is the energy required for the liquifaction of gas.
