1. The use of z scores is to gain a better perspective on the meaning of a raw score by determining its percentile, there are occasions when social work practitioners and researchers use them to derive a raw score from a percentile as well.

2. By using z scores, we can even compare two scores drawn from two different data sets with different means and/or different standard deviations.
