How will the temperature vary in the still with progress in Differential Distillation?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Temperature increases in pot as distillation progresses because as more and more volatile component boils off the constant heat flux is utilised in vaporising this volatile component which has lower boiling point and as it starts getting depleting in pot while enriching this pot for less volatile component the heat now starts getting utilised in boiling this non volatile component which has high boiling point hence to attain that temperature pot temperature should increase since heat supplied is constant. In other word, Initially all the heat is taken by more volatile componenent to change its phase and as it starts to get depleted this heat is taken as now senisble heat by solution having more quantity of less volatile compoenent and temperature starts increasing.
