Providing an HR cost/benefit analysis can be a time consuming and expensive endeavor. However, providing such a quantitative data to senior managers can help improve the chance of HR policies/project/programs being funded.

Consider the operations and marketing departments who have a long tradition of quantifying costs/benefits of their programs. These departments have quite a bit of experience with presenting their activities in dollars and cents. HR, on the other hand, does not have as much experience and therefore are at a competitive advantage when vying for company dollars.

Assume that you are the HR Manager of your organization and the President/CEO just informed you that they may need to cut some of the HR budget unless you are able to prove how the department’s activities add value to the organization. Demonstrate to your president/CEO why your HR activities outweigh the costs to the organization.

1. Hiring the right candidate for the organization that ensures that if the appropriate candidate is hired for the company than he will prove to be an asset of the company and will contribute for the growth of the organization through performing on the objectives of the company.

2. Training the employees: when employees lack in their technical knowledge, it is the HR department that provides training to them so as to ensure that they perform their jobs as per the provided standards. HR department also conduct developmental sessions for employees which ensures the healthy environment of the organization.

3. Motivating the employees: HR department keeps on motivating the employees and resolving the conflicts among them so as to increase their productivity that ensures efficient completion of task or the project so that organization could generate revenues.

4. HR audits: HR department continuously conduct the HR audit so as to ensure that employees who are asset for the organization do not leave the organization. Thus, HR department reduces the cost of the organization associated with the retention rate.
