Two prejudices or stereotypes in India that is common in my culture are
1. Giving Education to a girl child is wastage of money and getting her married soon is the only responsibility of parents. Although with time, child marriages, marriages with a tree, dog etc, unequal education to girls, providing opportunities to girls to go ahead in their career has been eradicated slowly still in most of the rural places, the practices are followed. The women literacy rate is 65.46% compared to men literacy rate of 82.14%. Again, different states have different literacy rates. With many national programmes like National Literacy Mission, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Manthan Sampoorna Vikas Kendra, Mamidipudi Venkatarangaiya Foundation the scenario has changed (Dharmalingam & Morgan, 1996; National Literacy Mission, 2009).
2. Girls are meant to do household chores. The male-dominated society in India does not allow female counterparts to explore jobs with their career because of the perceived notion that they are made to work at home. According to the World Economic Forum, it is the female counterpart who can support the family financially and increase the economic levels. According to the Annual Global Gender Gap Report 2014, the equality in work, education and healthcare has led to the development of countries including India.
