Quality Management 1. Identify any national awards in your country that are aimed at promoting high quality standards in business (manufacturing or service). 2. Do you know if promoting high quality standards in business has improved the growth and efficiency of the top firms in your country? Support with examples. 3. Identify the four costs of quality. Which one is hardest to evaluate? Explain.
The highest quality award being awarded in my country is Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award. There are many big firms in the country which has acheived this prestigious award by constanty focusing on quality of their products. For example Larsen & toubro, ITC, Kirlosker pumps etc. Steel authority of India (SAIL) has grabbed this award multiple times.
The four costs of quality are:
1) Prevention costs
2) Appraisal cost
3) Internal failure costs
4) External failure costs.
The one of the hardest one to evaluate is External failure cost. The main reason for that is this cost is incurred when the product has reached to the end user and if it has failed there hence it becomes really difficult to evaluate that. Sometimes the user don't report and when they report the rectification cost of that is so huge that this becomes the most concerning cost of quality for an organization.
