When hiring future workers, employers look for hard skills (those we learn, such as mastery of software applications or accountancy procedures) and soft skills. Soft skills are personal characteristics, strengths, and other assets.

Studies have divided soft skills into four categories:

Thinking and problem solving

Oral and written communication

Personal qualities and work ethic

Interpersonal and teamwork

Your Task. Using the preceding categories to guide you, identify your own soft skills, paying attention to those you think a potential employer would value. Prepare lists of at least four items in each of the four categories. For example, as evidence of problem solving, you might list a specific workplace or student problem you recognized and solved. You will want to weave these words and phrases into cover letters and résumés, which are covered in Chapter 13.

1- Thinking and problem solving-

thinking & problem solving is very important skills is very important to a person to have.this skills help the person to think critically about a situation & find the solution for that.

  • there was a situation where i had to submit an assignment to my teacher but i could not submit personally so i send the pictures of my assignment via social media application & when i reached the school next day. i submitted personally in hard copy.
  • there was topic given to us in meeting in our workplce we think it carefully & give the presentation on that topic.
  • there was a situation where i lost purse in the morning & got to know in the evening. then to find my purse i think & redone my previous activities to trace back my purse.
  • there was a situation where i forgot my license. so to overcome this sitautiion in future i saved all my papers & documents in digital form so that i i forgot to carry them so i can use my digital documents.

2- Oral and written communication-

oral & written communication are soft skills of a person. these are very required because without communication person can do nothing especially on a workplace.

the examples or eveidence of oral & written communication are-

  • writting letters or memos
  • writting essasys or thesis or reports.
  • oral presentation
  • oral speeches

3- Personal qualities and work ethic-

personal qualities refers to the person's intrinsic qualitie which made the behavior & attitude of the person. work ethics referd to the values, beliefs adopted at the workplace.

the items in personal qualities & work ethics are-

  • leadership qualities
  • postive attitude
  • honesty & fairness at work place
  • prohibition of discrimination at work

4- Interpersonal and teamwork-

interpersonal & teamwork shows the quality of a person to work also in group because in a workplace person does not only work individually but assigned in a team for a project.

items for interpersonal & teamwork are-

  • coordination
  • cooperation
  • brainstorming
  • project management

according to me, employer would value the communication & Thinking and problem solving skills because these are mostly helpful while working at the job.
