Do you consider your daily texting, Facebook updates, e-mails, and other informal writing to be "real writing"? How might such writing differ from the writing done in business?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The informal writing like texting, Facebook updates and informal emails cannot be considered to be real writing because these are written with mrere feelings. They do not involve any specific formal purpose of writing nor are they written following any writing format or guidelines. The writer just expresses his feelings out through such written material. It can be in any format, for any purpose and conveyed to anyone. It carries a casual tone and is written with no specific purpose or transfer of information.

Such writings are different from the writing done in business because of the formal element the business writing contains. Such writings are written in fully professional tone following certain format and adhereing to the guidelines depending on the purpose of the writing and the mode of communication. For example, there is a certain way of writing a business letter or email and another of writing a business report. Business writings have to strictly follow these rules to be relevant and considered important. They are written for sharing information, conveying a business message or making queries for business purpose. Moreover, the person writing a business material can be held responsible for what he writes sometimes legally and at all times morally and ethically but in informal writing, a person can use any kind of language, any information and any way of writing but he won't be questioned on these grounds for it.
