Provide a detailed example of “social loafing” in the workplace, steps to address this phenomenon and within the expectancy-value framework.
Social loafing is the reason some teams are not productive and slow down without any success. For example when a team in an office is given an important project and all the team members are assigned tasks, an employee neglects his/her task thinking that their duty will be covered by others and take rest. This creates a void in the task and the other members will feel pressure from this and hence the team fails to work . When a person expects musch from their team mates and stop putting their efforts we need to ensure they are made to see their mistakes at the right time . We need to make them understand the importance of task assigned to them and the importance of their contribution to the team and the project, We nned to show them the expectations the team members have on him and must encourage them to live up to them. This motivates them and they might start their work .
