Answer #1

“Why does this always happen?”

There are some situations where employee don’t perform or less perform- interpersonal issues with a manager, politics in an organization, and personal life problem as well. (That is different case when product demand, quality, price issues are there). But in this case, it seems Matt, senior account manager is having not great relationship with Sara, Manager of Miami office. She started with successful account manager later became Manager of Miami office.Sara helps employees in training, problems solving situation, communication techniques; she must be a great manager. Matt, on the other hand finds himself on negative side always by talking negative feelings of employees to Sara, whereas Sara always tried to give positive feedback, motivate, inspire Matt.

Matt is not a bad person but he is unable to understand the situation. And instead of focusing on the work, he always finding something negative in the staff. And When Sara as a manager tried to solve it, Matt ruined his relationship with Sara as well. Now Sara is upset with Matt about everything.Matt is not focusing on his work, on his relationships with staff and managers. Hence, slowly Matt became a topic for others and politics grew in an organization about him. When you give an opportunity to become a political gossips, your value in an organization become NULL.

What could she do about the Miami office?

Sara has done a lot to improve the relationship between Matt and her, also to improve and shift focus toward his work. But Matt left with no response or not supported her.Giving notice to an employee is not a good idea, instead be with him, try to understand what problem he is facing – Personal life, in Work? If Matt founds difficult to move things out, try to shift his department and make him do work in relevant department like Sales Support, Client Servicing, and so on.

What “always happens”?

Politics, interpersonal issues always happens in an organization. Actually, it’s not a good things to be there. When we say, we work as a family, do we see politics or interpersonal war between family members? No, we respect each other. But when there is any argument happen between managers or employees, the politics starts. They need to understand, why the argument happened, get the cause of it. If you are the cause, accept it; if you aren’t the cause then explain it.

Can it be prevented? How?

In an organization, we work with people belonging to different religion and culture especially in India. Only one thing works here, Humanity. We all are working for some purpose. Help each other to achieve their purpose, everybody’s purpose would get achieved automatically. It’s so simple, we make it complicated. We got a family to run, if we are not happy with our workplace, it affect our personal life as well.HR plays a major role in it. Arrange a program which talks more on health, being human, cooperation, and so on, so that make every employee as a good human being.Manager plays a major role in team handling. Don’t be biased, be fair. As child follow their parents on habits, communication, behavior, and so on, team would follow manager. So it’s very important to be a manager who is Human with values.
