What are the differences between Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA)?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Preliminary Hazard Analysis

PHA provides list of all possible hazards which may exist in the system. It is a preliminary listing so it is broad rather than deep. It ensures that all the hazards are considered before focusing on a single Hazard. In PHA, hazards are listed in ranks according to their severity.

Job Safety Analysis

JSA helps in identifying, analyzing and documenting the steps performed while performing a specific job, identifying the hazards associated with job and ways to control the hazards identified. Hazard identification is done using tools like what if analysis and scenario analysis.
