A conversation is between John and Dave from the Sales Department. They have just finished attending a briefing with their Sales Manager about the new product. “Magic Hand Spray Sanitizer ABC: One and Only killer of all Viruses. Inducing COVID-19”
John: Don't you think that our new hand sanitizer is too good to be true?
Dave: What do you mean?
John: Well we claimed that the product can kill all types of bacteria and viruses. Even Covid- 19. We also claimed that the product can enhance human immunization. As far as I know, no vaccine is available yet and yet we have made such a claim I don't buy that. We have never tested the product In the lab. How can we claim such results?
Dave: You are thinking too much, Dave. It is not our position to educate them.
John: So. do you think they will believe all these?
Dave: I think we should leave it to the customers. The focus is to sell it. Moreover, you and I have to sell at least 10,00 units to achieve the target
In your opinion, why does Dave decided to 'leave it to the customers’?? Explain with Business Ethics Theory and Justification.
In my opinion, Dave decided to 'leave it to the customers ' because the market is heterogeneous. There are various types of customers present in the market. There would be customers who purchased their sanitizers just because they need one as a necessity. And there would be a little customers who would buy their sanitizer after reading that it can kill COVID-19. As far as the business concerned, they are sure that almost everybody knows that there is still no cure for COVID-19.
As per the business ethics theory, it is morally wrong to do so. Business has to guide the customers about the right things and conduct their business with at most on utmost honesty and trust to build a good relationship with all the stakeholders.
Misguiding statements to attract customers are not right morally and ethically.
It is the customer's right to know about the truth, and one cannot justify this accurately. Though there are not many customers who would believe in their claim, but there would be some illiterate customers in the market who would find them. As such, they should not host such faulty statements.
