1) change is a state, that is forced by environmental factors (internal and/or external). In simple terms change is a process that helps to reach desired position from a current position. In an organisational context, change can be incremental or major. It brings lot of challenges to the Management, and employees.
Barriers to change involves habit of the members, time constraints, conflicts, lack of consequences, resources, support, and other factors. Habits of the employees won't let them welcome new methods, and processes. Time constraints may prevent bringing transformations, and could impact the business adversely. Conflicts may occur among the members, or with the management that creates counterproductive behaviour and halt the change process. Insufficient resources, lack of support from seniors will make the change impossible to get implemented or lead to ineffectiveness. Inappropriate leadership style and approach will also lead to failure and wont take the business firm to a desired state.
Among these barriers most difficult one is the habits of the members. Because, change can't be implemented without the support of employees, and their ability to transform. When they are very familiar with current methods, work pattern, and technology, it becomes very difficult to change their way of work and to make them teachable.
