Answer #1

Some of the questions being asked for the bookkeeper position, such as explain a balance sheet, how to find an error in a ledger, activities performed in earlier role, knowledge of accounting software, what kind of financial reports are created in the last role, experience on interacting with suppliers or clients, familiarity with state or local legal requirements, etc.

In my view, there is no standard time which need to be devoted for interviewing a candidate but it is important to cover all the aspects while asking questions, e.g. work experience, questions to assess bookkeeping expertise and knowledge, soft skills, etc. Generally, 30 minutes discussion is decent for the preliminary rounds.

Some of the illegal questions are, asking on mental or physical disabilities, if time off needed for religious holidays, national origin, checking more on religion, race, ethnicity, age, lifestyle preferences, etc.
