Describe your design for a process to collect and present data to your unit on at least one nurse sensitive indicator. Include how you intend to use the obtained data in driving and sustaining performance improvement.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Design is a tool used to collect data. In this case I am using observational method to collect the data on the nurse sensitive indicator -nursing care hours given to the nurse for each patient. From the data collected by observational method it is found that the number of incidence of pressure ulcers, medicinal error are increasing due to shortage of time to devote on increased number of patients.

Due the staff shortage ,the nurse : patient ration is increased from 1:2 to 1:3- 1:4 and this is causing overburden on the nurses .They are unable to provide appropriate nursing care and time to each patient

The data hence ,proves that if the nurse patient ratio is decreased then the nurses are able to provide patient centred quality care to their patients and it will improve the performance and decrease the chances of pressure ulcers and medicine errors

Using the scientific method, design your own simple psychological research study and describe it. In your description, please identify: 1. What is your theory? What is your hypothesis?  Make sure your theory/hypothesis relates to psychology and involves human participants. 2. What kind of sample will you use? Why? How will you recruit them? 3. Which research design you’ll be using to test your hypothesis (experimental or correlational)? Why did you choose this design? 4. How you will split your participants into...

Jade is the nurse manager for 4 South, a busy 32-bed surgical unit. The unit has been asked to participate in a pilot study in which the nursing documentation module for the clinical information system is used. Two other nursing units are involved: the pediatric unit and the adult intensive care unit (ICU). As part of this pilot study, one unit will evaluate bedside computers, one unit will test handheld devices, and the remaining unit will use portable computers (laptops)...

Experimental Study Design Suppose that you have been hired by the university administration to design a randomized experimental study to assess the following hypothesis among undergraduate students: Attending weekly yoga classes leads to better performance on exams. Be sure that your study design addresses the following elements: Refine the study hypothesis so that it is as specific as possible and contains all elements of a “good” hypothesis. Remember that the design, conduct, and analysis of the study flows from the...

This week you will collect time measurements and organize your observed data into a frequency distribution table and a relative frequency histogram. Start by choosing something you can time easily in seconds. (Thing about events that typically take between 20 seconds and 3 minutes.) You will need to collect at least 30 observations. Be as consistent as you can with your time measurements. Most of you have smart phones with easy-to-use apps with timers already built in. If your measurements...

Collect some quantitative data (if your data from week 1 is quantitative, you can use it). Find the sample mean and standard deviation. Plot it in a histogram. Does the data seem to follow the bell curve of the normal distribution? What features of the data do or do not fit in with the shape of the normal curve. How much deviation from the curve is to be expected?

Honda uses statistical process control to monitor and improve a variety of processes. Employees collect data, and then analyze it using statistical process control charts. They can make adjustments if needed. The statistical process control charts enable workers to understand precisely how processes are working and anticipate problems before they occur. One interesting use is in monitoring the effort required to close a door. Honda monitors the speed of the door required to make it latch by using a special...

You are a nurse manager on this same very busy unit. One of your nursing staff’s biggest dissatisfiers is fatigue, particularly for staff who work night shift. You know that the practice council is working on a “sleep break” program. In the meantime, what can you, the nurse manager, do to reduce staff fatigue and make the workplace safer for both the nurses and the patients? Remember to make your plan economically sustainable as well. Try to keep your postings...
