The San Antonio State Hospital (SASH) a state mental health facility within the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) system is known for providing intensive inpatient diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitative, and referral services mentally ill persons who are serious from South Texas regardless of their financial status. Admission may be voluntary or involuntary based on whether the patient is determined by a court to be seriously mentally ill, dangerous to self or others, or if left untreated would become dangerous to self or others. SASH involves the patient's family in the treatment/rehabilitation process to the degree legally and clinically feasible.
