Answer: The added regulations might be needed to protect patient electronic records over the next decade as today itself many of the things has been arrived to protect the electronic data of the patient such as HIPAA regulations require that covered entities implement administrative, physical and technical safeguards that reasonably and appropriately protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the electronic patient health records that it creates, receives, maintains, or transmits.

There will be need of more advanced technologies to protect the electronic health records of the patients, more enhancement is needed to keep the privacy of the patient's records. Not only the advancement in the technologies but also in the ethical values as the electronic health record has caused much ethical debate for the healthcare professional, policy makers, and patients.
