Over the counter drugs (OTC drugs) are the drugs that need no
prescription and can be obtained directly from pharmacy.
ADVANTAGES
- Relief from a disease can be achieved fast.
- Need not meet a physician, time can be saved and money
too.
- With less patients, the physician may get more time to spend
with patients.
- It might be useful when the health care system is poor
working.
- It gives a person confidence over taking care of health and
also well being.
DISADVANTAGES
- The person might get a wrong drug by confusing the
symptoms.
- He may not be able to obtain suitable dose.
- Continuous usage may lead to addiction
- Delays patient meeting with physician till the symptoms got
worse
- The OTC drugs might be abused
- Drug interactions may occur (if the person is already using
some other medicine)
