You work with your best frend on a nursing .She has just drawn up a vial of pain medication, and then receives a phone call that one of her patients have fallen. She finds you in the hallway and asks you to give the syringe of IV MORPHINE,she just drew up for the patient in room 3303 so she can check on her patient that fell. She tells you the patients name and date of birth. She has labeled the syringe with the patients name, date of birth ,medication, dosage and route.Do you give the medication? If yes,Why? If not ,Why not? What other options are there?
Answer 1:- Yes.
Since, the syringe she gave me is MORPHINE which is severe pain reliever medication, it indicates this patient is in SEVERE PAIN and needs immediate analgesic (pain reliever), and Knowing the fact that I am also a nurse, equally qualified and capable of doing this job , so yes I will give this syringe to the patient that she asked so that this patient is relieved of severe pain.
•The other option could be, she can ask me to attend the patient who has fallen and she herself give medication to this patient who is suffering from severe pain and then comes to check the fallen patient.
•Another option could be she can ask any other nurse if she finds some other nurse more responsible than me, to do this job of giving morphine to her patient and she herself attends the fallen patient.
