Definition:

•Socialisation is the process through which individuals learn the norms and values of society, leading to social cohesion and a functional society (according to functionalists).

•The activity of mixing socially with others.

•Gender stereotypes can be a result of gender socialization. Girls and boys are expected to act in certain ways, and these ways are socialized from birth by many parents (and society). For example, girls are expected to be clean and quiet, while boys are messy and loud.

Example:

Interacting with friends and family, being told to obey rules, being rewarded for doing chores, and being taught how to behave in public places are all examples of socialization that enable a person to function within his or her culture.
